CTBR Barrows Excel at the State Fair of Texas for the Second Consecutive Year

The 2026 State Fair of Texas, held from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2, was an incredible start for the Certified Texas Bred Registry (CTBR) season, with exhibitors earning the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion honors for the second consecutive year, along with four (4) breed and two (2) reserve breed champions. In addition, the CTBR program had the most barrows registered for the State Fair of Texas since 2023.

Grand Champion Barrow | Billie Benson

Billie Benson of Montgomery Co. 4-H A exhibited the Grand Champion barrow raised by Josh and Carrie Brockman of Brockman Farms in Seminole. Benson enjoys showing pigs and riding horses. One day, she hopes to attend Texas A&M University to become a veterinarian.

Reserve Grand Champion Barrow | Colter Winter

Colter Winter of Lubbock County 4-H exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion barrow raised by Jay and Will Winter of Wintex Farms in Idalou. Winter is a 7th grader at Idalou Junior High, where he is a member of the football team and the livestock judging team. When he gets older, he plans to attend Texas Tech University.

The CTBR program was created to recognize and reward Texas youth and breeders for their accomplishments within the show ring with Texas-bred pigs. Through the program, youth can qualify for scholarship opportunities and potentially receive additional premiums. In addition, unique recognition through social media and association events is included to honor our exhibitors for their achievements.

The Texas Pork Producers Association (TPPA) looks forward to recognizing, rewarding, and celebrating the accomplishments of our youth and breeders through the CTBR program in the 2026-2027 season. For more information about the CTBR program, click here.

The CTBR program would not be possible without our incredible sponsors. Thank you to our 2026 media sponsor, Premium Advantage Show Feeds, for their support of the CTBR initiatives.
