Texas Pork Producers Association Announces the Inaugural Texas Best Pork Chop Competition

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – The Texas Pork Producers Association (TPPA) is excited to announce its inaugural Texas Best Pork Chop Competition. This new statewide initiative recognizes exceptional Texas restaurants while promoting the quality, flavor, and versatility of pork.

From Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, Texans can nominate their favorite restaurant pork chops from across the state. Restaurants may also nominate themselves. Establishments that do not feature a pork chop on their menu may also participate by creating a signature dish for the competition; however, if chosen as the winner, the dish must become a permanent menu item.

A panel of judges will select the top finalists based on all nominations submitted. Finalists will be announced in October to celebrate National Pork Month. After finalists are selected, judges will visit each restaurant anonymously to evaluate their pork chop based on taste, tenderness, creativity, presentation, and overall dining experience. One restaurant will ultimately earn the title of Texas’ Best Pork Chop.

“Texas culture is truly one-of-a-kind,” said Laura Jimenez, consumer marketing specialist for TPPA. “While Texas may not be one of the nation’s largest pork-producing states, it is home to one of the largest and most diverse populations, making it the perfect place to celebrate the creativity and flavor of pork. We hope this competition inspires Texans to discover new restaurants, support local chefs, and experience the versatility of pork in communities across the state.”

The restaurant crowned Texas’ Best Pork Chop will receive official recognition as the premier restaurant for pork in Texas. The winning chef will be presented with an engraved chef’s knife, a commemorative recognition plaque, and the opportunity to showcase the official winner window decal and digital winner badge for promotional use. In addition, the restaurant will also be featured across the association’s marketing channels and serve as the “Official Texas Pork Chef Ambassador” for one year.

All top finalists will also be featured across the association’s website and social media. To recognize their achievement as a finalist, they will also be awarded a window decal and digital badge.

“Our mission is to celebrate all aspects of the pork industry – from the farm to your plate,” said TPPA’s Executive Director, Colby Ferguson. “This competition supports our mission to the fullest through engaging with Texans who are eager to support their communities, while promoting restaurants who help put pork on consumers’ plates.”
